Writing Suicide Girls

The idea of the book occurred to me while I was on holiday in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I was vacationing with my wife Susan, my sister Dianne and her husband John. A few days into the trip, I came down with a nasty flu and was confined to bed for 10 days with a fever. It was during this time that a rough outline of the book came to me.

When I regained my strength I spent the days researching suicide girls and Kinbaku – yes, I was still on holidays! I was familiar with these terms but I did not know a great deal about them. During my research I sent emails to people who lived in Toronto and were suicide girls and had an interest in Kinbaku. This got me in touch with Sughra who was invaluable in providing me information on Kinbaku. She was instrumental in getting me into a small private showing of a Kinbaku exhibit hosted by Osaka Dan and featuring a master from Japan. It was there I met Tifereth. The more I learned about Kinbaku the more fascinated I became with the subject. I hope I adequately expressed the essence of Kinbaku in the book.
