A young escort named Ruby is found dead in her apartment.  The official verdict, suicide.  Her counselor and friend, Amira Pedersen, refused to believe Ruby committed suicide. When another escort was found with her wrist slashed a couple of weeks later Amira wondered if a serial killer was targeting escorts in Toronto. She  decided to take matters into her own hands and with the help of her friend, Brixton Jones, they start a chain of events that will lead the killer to Amira.

Suicide Girls

Suicide Girls, a phrase coined in the early 2000's,  promoted an alternate beauty such as tattoos, piercings, dreads and 40/50's pin-up styles in women.  Women having any one or combinations of these attributes were thought to be comitting 'social suicide' because society did not respect people's choice of such body modifications.  The phrase was popularized by a website created for these women www.suicidegirls.com.  Although over the years society has become more tolerant to suicide girls there is still a stigma attached to them.

The novel is set in the Toronto community of Cabbagetown. Cabbagetown is a charming 'village' neighbourhood located on the east side of downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It comprises "the largest concentration of  Victorian homes  in all of North America and is an engaging  and quirky part of the world.  Cabbagetown's name derives from the Irish immigrants who moved into the neighbourhood in the late 1840's and said to have been so poor that they grew 'cabbage' in their front yards.
